Styling photos

So i’m stepping out of my comfort zone here—learning how to take professional looking photos of my work. Scrolling through instagram, I see tons of beautiful flay lays of invitation suites and I thought….maybe I could do that? I teamed up with my dad to create some backdrops using canvas and drywall paste. We made three different backdrops and had so much fun! I painted one with a light gray wash, but still deciding what to do with the other two.

Next was props! I went around the house and found a few things I could use:

My calligraphy pen and inks, vintage scissors, ribbons, leaves from the yard, etc.

I hit up the thrift store:

I got this awesome silver tray for cheap! I just love how tarnished and well loved it looks!

And finally, my favorite store, Homegoods/Tj Maxx:

I picked up some nice marble coasters and vase filler (little sprigs of leaves, dried flowers).

Oh—and I scored some mint condition vintage stamps from ebay.

Here is what I came up with playing around with all my new props:

I am using my brand new Canon Rebel T7—I previously had a Rebel XTI-from about 10 years ago! I am having fun learning new things with my camera and finding excuses to use it.

My new baby is a great model also:
